Message I'm focusing on the part where you pay the money and wait, and wait, and wait..... If a GB is set up where you need X number of people to get the GB pricing, I do not believe that people need to be paying 100% to get on the list and wait for other people to join in to reach the minimum requirement. Obviously, the terms will be different from one GB to the next. But many of the GB's I've seen is where the organizer gets a list of names and once there's a commitment from the required number of people, the money is then collected (typically a downpayment).

The timing is more subjective and I agree that rarely do things land right on the target date. However, this goes back to one of my previous comments about proper communication. Maybe I'm too concerned about people, but if I was running a GB and if the committed date I had from the vendor changed by even a day or two, the first thing I would be doing is to send out a mass-email letting the participants know about the schedule change. I'd even go so far as to send out emails (with tracking numbers as appropriate) to inform the participant that their item shipped out. From what I gather, this did not happen with the seat cover group buy. (if I'm wrong about the communication of schedule changes, please correct me so I'm not spreading misinformation).

There's a certain etiquette involved when you accept money in exchange for goods/services. If you want repeat customers, and good word of mouth advertising, then you need to bend over backwards and provide the highest level of customer service. This entails being proactive, as well as following up with the customer to ensure they are satisfied (and if not, doing something to compensate for the issue). I know I'm not saying anything that the majority of the people on this site don't already know. So I won't beat that dead horse any more.

Oh, and don't worry I can be degrading and arrogant - I just happen to be in a good mood today; if this exchange was happening yesterday, it would have been a different story. :-)
